BBO are the principal civil and transportation engineering consultants on this flagship project; a large format retail centre located in Te Rapa, Hamilton. BBO were responsible for all transportation planning, design and civils infrastructure for Stages l to 3 (approx. 35,000m2 general floor area (gfa)), including undertaking significant resource consent monitoring of the related traffic impacts on the adjacent high volume road network that includes SH l (30,000 vehicles per day (vpd)). BBO then produced the Integrated Transportation Assessment for the final Stage 4 retail development (24,700m2 gfa). Significant consultation was undertaken with Hamilton City Council and the NZ Transport Agency, to address their traffic related concerns and minimize the delay to the consent application.
BBO has been retained by Tainui Group Holdings (TGH) to produce the civil design for Stage 4 and is also undertaking further transport assessment for another 5000m2 gfa retail store north of The Base. Further traffic modelling was undertaken for the Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) which involves in excess of 100,000m2 gfa and a traffic model that encompasses the entire northern part of Hamilton. This model has been continually updated and was relied upon for evidence given at Hamilton City Council District Plan Hearings as recently as October 2013. All project milestones so far have been met or exceeded. BBO has fostered a strong working relationship with TGH, becoming their preferred transportation planning and civil engineering consultant in Hamilton.
“The Base is one of New Zealand’s largest retail centres with over 80,000m2 of floor area. Bloxam Burnett and Olliver (BBO) has been a key supply partner since development started in 2004. BBO has consistently provided quality designs for the entire civil and traffic infrastructure on the site, and has also been a key supplier for planning services.
The base is a hugely successful development for Tainui and we look forward to working closely with BBO to continually come up with world leading solutions to deal with complex development requirements.”
